About us

Los EcoAmigos believes that environmental education in Spanish is crucial.

In order to get active participation from the Latino Community into the sustainable world it is very important to provide them with environmental education in Spanish. Then, they will be able to fully understand how this green movement is affecting them, why they should feel included and how to act environmentally responsibly.

The purpose of Los EcoAmigos is to empower residents in distressed urban core neighborhoods to lead healthy, prosperous lives in thriving, self-sustaining communities. Los EcoAmigos educates using a very important factor, her cultural approach, providing families with a broad and integrated support as they make their changes in their current living practices.

Los EcoAmigos collaborates with organizations that are already educating about environmental issues but are not reaching yet the largest minority in the country, the Latino community, so they can actively participate and make a significant contribution to decrease the carbon footprint emission and at the same time learn the impact of the triple bottom line in their families and its future.

Who we are

Elena, the Founder/Director of Los EcoAmigos is passionate about the environment and its importance on our lives. She seeks to enlighten every individual to realize that we all share our planet that should be cherished and nurtured instead of taken for granted. Ever since she arrived to California on 2005, she has dedicated herself to learn and advocate, in English and Spanish, about different sustainability aspects and implement alternatives such as water and energy conservation and efficiency, waste reduction, recycling and composting, 5Rs, and plastic usage awareness either in business and/or at home. She has developed a curriculum and programs that allow her to outreach to the Latino population about these important issues.

Elena has worked extensively educating about environmental practices at different schools, has presented several workshops to business entrepreneurs, restaurants, coffee shops, hotels, churches, office buildings, multifamily and senior centers, supporting and advising on their environmental curricula and implementing recycling programs. She has worked with a variety of community based organizations helping them implement their in-house green efforts to reduce, re-think, recycle, refuse and re-use, among other topics.

Given the San Francisco Bay Area’s multiculturalism and rapid growth of the Latino population, Elena

believes that the wealth of sustainability information and programs should be ethnically inclusive. Enabling the growing Latino population to become environmentally conscious and active, will result in many more successful stories, improving the lot of future generations.

With her, there is a group of consultants professionals, interpreters, translators educators that support her efforts on promoting bilingual environmental education.
